Jumpsuits look adorable on kids, but if a girl wears a figure flattering one, it looks absolutely hot! Throw away your party dresses and get a short jumpsuit (also called romper) instead. Wear a baggy one when babysitting your nephew, a backless one for a walk down the red carpet and a halter-neck jumpsuit for clubbing…there’s one for every occasion.
You will be accused of murder if you over-accessorize a jumpsuit. OTT make-up or too much jewellery will just kill the chic look of this versatile piece. Be minimal instead; wear strappy footwear, nude makeup, big-rimmed sunglasses (if it’s sunny), with a chunky necklace or belt (not both please!) and a cool watch.
Jumpsuits have a slimming effect, if chosen correctly. A tall, slender girl can pull off any length and silhouette, but a petite woman ought to steer clear of full-length ones with palazzo pants for it will make her appear shorter. Got sexy legs? Wear a mid-thigh romper. A little heavy on the thighs? Get an ankle length suit with a straight fit. Stay away from large prints if you’re busty and invest in solid colours instead. Black is a sure winner, but do check out reds, blues, greens and animal printed ones as well.
Even celluloid stars are looking to jumpsuits to make a fashion statement; from Bollywood A-listers like Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone who wear them for public events and Diana Penty in Cocktail who totally rocked a printed romper, to Hollywood style queens Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz and Gwyneth Paltrow, this has become a fashion staple and with good reason.
This one-shoulder jumpsuit by Pia Pauro, as showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week is not just chic and a guaranteed head-turner at any social gathering, but is also a blessing for girls with toned arms and maybe not-so-perfect legs. Needless to say, Monica Dogra has done complete justice to it.
