How does one even begin to describe the amazingness that is Shahrukh Khan? It’s a humbling experience, if not an honour, to write about his various avatars on his 47th birthday.
Shah Rukh is open to experimenting with his look on screen, even though he plays safe off camera. From a lovable Rajasthani turban-wearing merchant in Paheli to the endearing simpleton who wears sports shoes with trousers in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, to the short-tempered sunglasses-headband sporting ruffian in Josh, and the blue-eyed superhero in Ra.One, he has showed the world that he is called the “Badshah of Bollywood” for a reason.
He stole millions of hearts with his boyish charm in his debut Hindi film Deewana, and again in blockbusters like Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge and more. Remember him in Mohabbatein? Clad in trousers and shirts, with a sweater draped on his sturdy shoulders, who wouldn’t want to date a professor like him? His semi-formal look in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, comprising well-tailored blazers and trench coats is one to write home about, as is his bordering-on-geeky look in Main Hoon Na, with sleeveless sweaters worn over formal shirts and paired with flared pants. It will be a long time before I forget his casually chic ensemble in Kal Ho Na Ho. And if he were to be the coach of a girls’ hockey team (like in Chak De! India) for real, I am sure the girls would have a tough time following his instructions, for they would be so busy taking in the sights!
His red carpet look mainly comprises formal suits in black. We can all agree that even though he looks good in every colour, black was made for him! His smart tuxedos, bow ties, slim ties and impeccable Oxfords are classy and quite sexy too. Off camera, he is dressed casually in jeans and T-shirts, paired with casual shoes (sometimes canvas) though he does throw on a jacket occasionally. He keeps his accessories to a minimum: classic aviators, a watch, and sometimes a scarf. And when he’s in the cricket stadium to cheer his team, Khan either wears the team jersey, or is dressed casually. Remember the time when he did a cartwheel on the field? Bet his fans fell in love with him all over again!
Take a bow Shah Rukh. You are and will always be the KING!
