If you love colours, but have had enough of colour blocking, then try the Ombre trend. Ombre is a French word that means “to shade” and is used to describe a dip-dyed effect where the colour graduates from dark to light.
Ombre has been gaining popularity over the last few years (we’ve seen everything from ombre nails to hair to accessories) and it looks like it’s going to be big this year. International designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Mackage and Acne designed edgy ombre dyed clothing for women. Big names like Burberry Prorsum, Gucci, Givenchy, Prada, Alexander McQueen and Missoni too created pieces for fashionistas everywhere though it was the Herve Leger bandage dress that was most popular with celebrities everywhere. Gwenyth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, Eva Longoria, Sophia Vergara and Jessica Alba were spotted in ombre pieces on the red carpet, during their shopping trips and at resorts.
In India, Anita Dongre, Nikasha Tawadey, Nachiket Barve, Shivan and Narresh and Urvashi Kaur joined a long list of ombre loving designers. The gradient colours look great on kurtas and sarees and it’s fast becoming a wardrobe must have. Tabu, Ileana D’cruz, Lara Dutta, Neha Dhupia, Shilpa Shetty, Jacqueline Fernandez and Madhuri Dixit have all been spotted in shaded western and ethnic pieces.
Unlike other trends which are biased towards women, designers like James Long, Raf Simons, Armani, Versace, Ann Demeuleemester, Jonathan Saunders, Philip Lim and Salvatore Ferragamo created ombre pieces in everything from casuals to sharp formals for men. Kanye West and Usher were amongst the many spotted in ombre outfits.
