Olympic diet

It’s hard not to be inspired by all the hot bodies of the athletes competing in the Olympics this year. The nutritious meals consumed by these Olympians come as a breath of fresh air in a world addicted to diets and detox kits. A strong work-out regime combined with the right diet that’s been refined to the point of perfection, has turned out to be the best weapon in the face of increasingly stringent anti-doping rules.

Considering the fact that the average sportsperson trains two to four hours everyday, his nutritional requirements may be a little bit different from yours. Once you factor in the different requirements of each sport, the average athlete’s diet will turn out to be different from person to person. However, there is a strong emphasis on eating right – and that means less processed foods. Deprivation, however, is not in the picture; if they want that ice cream, they have it.

If you want to get in shape, maybe it’s time you approached your fitness regime from a new angle. Here are a few tips that will help you trim off those last few pounds or get you started on your fitness journey:

  • Eat healthy – cut down on processed foods. This will help you slim down in the short term, and help you stay healthy and relatively disease free as years go by. Sania Nehwal cut out junk food and loaded up on lean proteins to get fit for the London Olympics.
  • Get the best diet that suits your work-out. Do a little bit of research to find out what works for your body type. The Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps consumes a whopping 12000 calories every day. But then again, he trains for five hours daily.
  • Get moving. Aim for at least twenty minutes of exercise in a day if you are new to the whole fitness thing. You can increase the time limit depending on your level of fitness, and your lifestyle.
  • Don’t go hungry. Think of food as fuel, and eat at regular intervals to counteract cravings.
  • Stay hydrated.  Take cues from Usain Bolt and drink lots of fluids throughout the day.
